AZ shooter and Congress Woman romantically involved?

Posted by Jeremiah Holsclaw on Monday, January 10, 2011, In : government
If you have seen the coverage of the AZ shooting, Jared Loughner (the suspect) has been painted as a anarchist lunatic. But with careful review of the available evidence online, one can paint another picture. In a strange turn of events, the  Congress woman Gifford, who was hospitalized after being shot was actually a subscriber of Jared Loughner's youtube page. You can see a screen shot taken from her youtube account here.

Another interesting followup is that the suspect who was originally t...

Assertive Chinese Held in Mental Wards

Posted by New York Times on Saturday, November 13, 2010, In : government
Xu Lindong, a poor village farmer with close-cropped hair and a fourth-grade education, knew nothing but decades of backbreaking labor. Even at age 50, the rope of muscles on his arms bespoke a lifetime of hard plowing and harvesting in the fields of his native Henan Province.

But after four years locked up in Zhumadian Psychiatric Hospital, he was barely recognizable to his siblings. Emaciated, barefoot, clad in tattered striped pajamas, Mr. Xu spoke haltingly. His face was etched with exhaus...

How do the odds of dying in a terrorist attack stack up against the odds of dying in other unfortunate situations?

Driver’s License? We Don’t Need No Stinking License

Posted by Paul Clark on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, In : government

A recent editorial by Amitai Etzioni in the Washington Post discussing drivers’ licenses was "brave" enough to point out that "In a civil libertarian utopia, they would not exist." Etzioni declared, "I know that driver's licenses as a means of identification are a joke. Fake ones can still be ordered on the Internet or purchased for about $60 in many cities, and real ones can be obtained fraudulently." He had the facts to back him up. "[T]he General Accounting Office described a test in whi...

S.510 Your Food Freedoms Revoked

Posted by Samantha Hull on Monday, September 27, 2010, In : government
This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the Senate as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which legislation is considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned. [Last Updated: Sep 22, 2010 6:15AM]

If S.510 is accepted, i...
